Miss Supranational Botswana launches

- Amanda Kagiso

The first of its kind in Botswana, the Miss Supranational was officially launched this past weekend at Labama Hotel. The pageant was contested for by beautiful young women from across Botswana all with the hope to be crowned the first ever queen.

The event was organised by young people for young people together with Beauty Hub Academy who were responsible for training the contestants. The organisers, who had to carry this event on their shoulders financially to make it a success, are Gabby Babedi Gosekwang, Winfred Motcher and Phenyo Abel Raphofu.

The night started on a high note with incredible energy from the crowd. It started with performances from up and coming artistes and dancers by the names of Swag Kids DJs, C Fly and Jay Dee. The women graced the stage to start off the competition with introduction wear, which everyone brought their best wear to make a good first impression.

The crowd was left wanting more with everyone screaming for their favourite. Soon after that followed the traditional attire and it goes without saying that it did not disappoint. The DJs then put on a deck performance to keep the room entertained while they waited for the favourite category of them all, the swimwear. It goes without saying that the young women looked stunning. The stage was then set alight by the performances of C Fly and Jay Dee.

It was time to narrow the women down to top three and just before then, some were awarded in the categories of Miss Popularity, Miss Congeniality and Top Model amongst others and they were dominated by contestant, Nthabiseng Lebethe. As the night came to a close, it was time for the showdown of the evening gowns, which paved way for choosing the top three. And in no particular order, Anita Moiya, Nthabiseng Lebethe and Kefilwe Gabonakemo were named the top three.

The contestants battled it out in the question and answer, which was the last hurdle to jump to victory. And after some time off, the judges came back with the final scores to crown the queen. The crowning was set and the second princess is Anita Moiya and the first princess being Kefilwe Gabonakemo while the queen is Nthabiseng Lebethe.
