Chiefs’ rival camp locks up home ground

- Boitumelo Khutsafalo Staff Writer

Mochudi Centre Chiefs supporters on Saturday resolved that the Kgatleng giants’ home ground, Skanska River Plate be locked up as two warring factions continue to fight for the control of the once dominant club.

The interim committee for the society held a general meeting on Saturday at Segale Primary school in Mochudi where a report about the current status of the club was given to the general membership.

During the meeting, the supporters resolved that the interim committee lock up the ground, which normally attracts capacity crowd during Magosi’s home games.

Their reasons were that the company has acquired other properties including the logo for the team without their (general membership) approval and consent. They therefore said the ground, which is currently in the society’s hands be locked up so that the interim committee can come up with ways on how to raise funds from it. The committee will come up with fees for its use. With the company, Mochudi Centre Chiefs Pty Ltd currently in charge of the team, it remains to be seen how the two camps currently engaged in a fierce battle will agree on its use.

At the same meeting the supporters also resolved to extend the committee’s term to lead the society as it fights for the control of the club with the company, Mochudi Centre Chiefs Pty Ltd led by directors, Sexton Kowa and Ramocha Tsieng. The two camps recently faced off at the High Court with the society led by interim chairperson, Victor Kobe fighting for the return of the team and its properties back to the society from the company. However the two camps only argued on whether the matter should be heard on urgency and the court ruled that the matter was not urgent.

With the extension of the interim committee’s term, Victor Kobe together with his committee have been asked to continue engaging attorneys on the matter. The society’s attorneys, Tshephe Legal are expected to file a case with the High Court, this time on a normal court application process.

The society argues that the acquisition of the team and other properties including the logo were done without the resolution or consent from the general membership. The company currently runs the team and has been in charge of the team’s pre-season preparations including signing of players and friendly matches. However Kobe on Saturday told the supporters that they have written to Botswana Football Association (BFA) and Kgatleng Regional Football Association (KRFA) to let them know that they still exist as a society and are still the true members of the two bodies. The supporters also resolved to remove Modise Modisane as an additional member, while the interim committee will look for his replacement.

The interim committee will also engage on the review of the current constitution of the Society as well as establishe a fundraising sub committee to raise revenue for the society.
