FRANCISTOWN: A 35-year-old taxi driver lost his life in a fatal accident that took place along Newstance, Flowertown Road near Sewage in Kazungula village.

Kazungula Police Station commander, Phetogo Phillimon told The Monitor that the accident involving two cars occurred on Friday night.

He said the deceased taxi driver was in a grey Toyota Vitz that was coming from the east and going to the west carrying two passengers.

He added that the other driver in a silver Toyota Allex, aged 34, of Pandamatenga was travelling alone also coming from the east and heading to the west, travelling behind the Toyota Vitz.

Phillimon indicated that the Toyota Allex driver decided to overtake and ended up hitting the Toyota Vitz from behind which then lost control and veered off the road.

“After the accident the 35-year-old driver’s body was lifeless. He was then taken to the hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival, whereas the other driver sustained a cut on the left forearm and bruises on the lips,” he added.

The Toyota Allex driver is still admitted to a Kasane hospital whereas both passengers aged 48 and 47 respectively sustained no injuries and were treated and discharged on the same day.

The Kazungula police boss said the body of the 35-year-old man is in the morgue awaiting post-mortem and the investigation is still ongoing.

He also said that the next of kin of the deceased have been informed.

Phillimon urged motorists to be vigilant and obey all road signs.
