Grand Palm Gin Experience a spirited adventure
Gin lovers this past Saturday embarked on a spirit-infused journey with the second edition of the Grand Palm Gin Experience at the Fig Tree.
The event offered a rare opportunity for gin enthusiasts to learn about the back-stories and meet the makers behind premium gin and tonic brands. The fantastic hosts on the day guided guests through gin tasting as they sampled different gin brands to understand flavour profiles and help them decide their favorite taste.
With a gin and tonic in hand, the hosts at their different well-stocked gin bars gave customers an insight into how they started. Some even explained their production process and managed to give patrons a feel of their distillery life. The guided tasting of the gins helped some gin lovers to better understand their palette and discover their preferred styles of gin together with their favourite botanicals.
Speaking of botanicals, local gin brand Okavango Gins ‘The Sentinel’ gave patrons a taste of locally sourced botanicals. The Okavango Gin representatives reiterated what the makers always highlight, that their core ingredient is something they discovered by chance. “The Mopane seed has trace elements of the same sort found in Juniper, the core of all gins. This unique and bold African flair has given our gin its signature flavour,” said the representative.
Okavango was not just the only one but there were handcrafted gins, which used the finest exotic botanicals mixed to amuse gin fans. Popular gin, Gordon’s gave patrons the usual classic taste. Ginologist provided patrons the ‘quality and freshness’ while Hendricks created from 11 fine botanicals offered a ‘delicate, more refined spirit’. No one can forget Mor Gin’s bold and innovative taste as Six Dog gave customers a chance to explore their range of all-natural, handcrafted gin. Imagin Gin delivered a vibrant burst of zesty citrus fruits while Cruxland, which is infused with Kalahari truffles, gave gin enthusiasts a uniquely African taste.
The handcrafted Graphite Gin, which is infused with Perigord Truffles, gave patrons a culinary delight as Unit 43, which was voted best Gin in Africa 2020 and 2021, offered a smooth and fresh taste. Whitley Neill Gin, which is a handcrafted premium gin that is distilled in the heart of the city of London, gave gin lovers a flavour profile of gins while the host Peermont’s RLX and EXC Gins thrilled patrons’ taste buds with fresh ingredients. Patrons were also given an insight into what has made each incredible gin so spectacular.
On another realm, there was also plenty to keep gin lovers entertained with performers like DJ Lefatshe, DJ Boogie Sid, DJ Beklala and DJ N.S.I just to name but a few. Overall it was an enjoyable, immersive, gin-filled event, suitable for beginners and gin enthusiasts. No other event in Botswana brings together the wonderful world of gin in quite the same way. So for people who were looking to embark on an exciting journey of gin discovery, this was most certainly the show for them.
