Tlokweng substation to address power quality, reliability issues
Government, in partnership with the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), has committed to providing stable electricity connection to Batswana following the Friday launch of the 132/11kV Tlokweng substation.
The inister of Minerals and Energy, Lefoko Moagi, said the launch marked a milestone in the country’s efforts to improve reliability and efficiency in electricity supply, ultimately fostering economic growth and development.
He added that projects like the Tlokweng substation are crucial in ensuring that both urban and rural areas reap the benefits of improved access to electricity.
“The decision to reduce and eventually eliminate the connection fee for electricity access demonstrates the government’s dedication to ensuring that all Batswana have equal opportunities to benefit from reliable electricity supply,” he said.
Supporting the minister, BPC CEO, David Kgoboko, said the substation will address power quality and reliability issues in the region.
He noted that by providing a stable and consistent supply of electricity, the substation will not only meet the current needs of the community but also support future growth and development initiatives in Tlokweng and surrounding villages.
“The inauguration of the substation signifies a step towards enhancing the infrastructure and services available in the area, ultimately contributing to the overall development and well-being of its residents,” the CEO said.
“The launch of the Tlokweng 132/11kV substation is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving electricity access and reliability in Botswana. By investing in projects like these, the country is not only addressing current challenges but also laying the foundation for future growth and development.”
Kgosi Puso Gaborone of the Batlokwa said the opening of the substation is a welcome development that will not only improve the lives of his people but also facilitate further growth and development in the area.
Gaborone highlighted that the success of initiatives like the “Zero Connection Project” and the opening of the Tlokweng substation reaffirm government’s dedication to ensuring that all Batswana have access to a consistent and dependable supply of electricity.
“As the fourth largest growing village in Botswana, Tlokweng has experienced rapid population growth, necessitating the development of infrastructure and services to support its residents,” he said.
