- BY CHRISTINAH MOTLHABANE

A 30-year-old former Botswana Defense Force (BDF) soldier, who killed his two daughters in 2013, appeared in court again on Thursday for attempted murder.

A mentally disturbed Thebe Njavera is said to have attacked three people with a gun on Tuesday in Francistown demanding money. Francistown Central Police Station Commander, Lebalang Maniki, confirmed the report.

“The matter was reported on Tuesday. Two men and a woman with ages ranging between 35 and 38 of Glory Miracle Tabernacle Church were praying on a hill between the Francistown Golf course and Donga location when the incident happened.

“It was stated that the perpetrator pointed a gun at them from nowhere demanding money. Luckily, they were brave enough to overpower him. They restrained him and brought him to the police station,” said Maniki.

Although the police boss said that they were still investigating, he has revealed that the gun was loaded. “We do not know where he got the gun and how he escaped from Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital in Lobatse,” revealed the police chief.

Njavera is now facing two counts of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a fire arm. He was remanded in custody and will appear again on the 31st this month.

He was found guilty for the murder of his two daughters, Palesa Ramaditse and Paseka Ramaditse, aged four and two respectively, at Somerset Extension location in Francistown on the 4th of February, 2013 after an altercation with his girlfriend.

Francistown Court Judge, Barnabas Nyamadzabo, ruled that the then president, Ian Khama, decide on the fate of Njavera since he was mentally disturbed and he was committed to Sbrana.
