SOCIAL MEDIA ROUND UP

- BY TUMISANG DALE RANKOPO

THIS past week was jampacked with entertaining topics for social media revellers.

Hot topics from the Debonairs slap scandal to a wrestling match in a combi, here are the highlights on this week’s social media round up.

Midnight stroll in the nude

A video clip surfaced online of a gentleman taking a walk with his dog near Broadhurst Industrial.

This would seem perfectly reasonable behaviour were it not for the fact that the man was in his birthday suit. The unbothered man paid no mind to the person recording him via camera phone as he went about his day. Social media was split between being entertained and being concerned. “The poor dog has to walk his human home in embarrassment,” read one comment. Another comment questioned whether the man was mentally healthy or even aware of where he was. The popular expression “A dog is a man’s best friend,” comes to mind after seeing the clip. You can truly be your naked self with your canine buddy.

Rodger Solomon appears in court

THE first ever public appearance of Botswana’s latest celebrity, Rodger Solomon, was at court for his bail application.

Many will remember Solomon from the Debonairs assault video but this time a less violent Solomon appeared in court hiding his face from the public as much as he could. Social media found it humourous with one comment stating that he is hiding from cameras in court but didn’t hide from cameras when he slapped another man silly. This was followed by many on social platforms poking fun at him including Vee Mampeezy, who made a short comedy skit about how he fears the word “Eita.” Poor Rodger, I hope you have learned your lesson.

Fake “Nandos” controversial advert

RIGHT after the Rodger Solomon fiasco, many Batswana were angry with Debonairs about the lack of security at their establishment.

Although it was later confirmed to be fake, a humourous Nando’s advert read “Eita! Don’t be afraid to walk in, only our extra extra hot sauce slaps hard.” Many on social media found the advert hilarious. “Trust Nando’s to always throw shade, such a spicy response.” were some of the trending comments.

Combi-mania

A video clip of a wrestling match between two women in a moving combi surfaced online.

It is unclear what the women were fighting about but it proved to be great entertainment. One of the women politely asked the driver to stop the car so she can get off while the opponent responded that she was going to follow her sparring partner out of the combi. Social media found it funny how out of all the chaos in the combi, the driver was only concerned about his payment. “The driver was focused, he understands that money is the most important thing,” said one comment on Facebook. We are eagerly awaiting the rematch.

Assault at a petrol station

ANOTHER assault video surfaced online, this time at Puma Energy Filling Station where a man was beaten by security guards.

As the assault continued, one of the security guards stated they didn’t care if the victim died. Social media had a lot to say about the matter; “I am sure they are just trying to impress their boss, but shame on them. The boss is just happy that you are helping him protect his dreams to grow while yours are shattered.” To which someone replied, “We need to stop releasing stress on other people.” Another comment asked, “When will this violence end in this country. What are we trying to prove?”
