LIMKOKWING TO HOST VIRTUAL GRADUATION CEREMONY

Frontline Covid-19 vaccinations begin in Zim

-

LIMKOKWING University of Creative Technology will host its first-ever Virtual Graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Saturday the 27th of February, 2021.

The ceremony, which will be broadcast live on both Botswana Television and the University’s Facebook page starting at 1000hrs in the morning, will be held under the theme, “Design Your Future”.

The Guest of Honor at this year’s Class of 2020 Virtual Graduation will be the Minister for Tertiary Education, Research, Science & Technology, Honorable Dr Douglas Letsholathebe.

The school prides itself in producing graduates equipped with 21stcentury skills and is confident the latest have acquired these skills, which will set them to become contributors and drivers of the new economy at the same time shining as innovative leaders across all creative industries in Botswana.

“At Limkokwing University, our goal has always been to produce graduates who can make meaningful contributions to society. Along the way, we want to help shape our graduates’ characters while we develop their sense of values and impart to them the skills they need to become World-class industry leaders,” said Director Communications & Public Relations, Mercy Thebe.

Thebe says they want to help the graduates to think quickly on their feet and adapt to this everchanging world of new evolving technology.

Limkokwing opened new doors of creativity to their latest graduates by training them using the latest industry-standard equipment, tools, and software in digital and broadcast media, video, web, computer graphics, architecture, advertising and packaging, and fashion among many other exciting fields of study.

Limkokwing University also prides itself in producing industry leaders as its highest priority through its Limkokwing Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme (LEAP) which is aimed at producing entrepreneurs amongst graduates so they can become employers and not just employees.

LEAP is an intensive programme where all that the students learn is put to test as they develop a business idea, work as a team and present their ideas to industry mentors, hence preparing them to think beyond employability after graduation.

Limkokwing Botswana is pushing the education transformation envelope and is leading the way as the Innovation and Creativity Hub of Africa.

This is evident through this most globalised cohort of young professionals which is not only from Botswana but also includes 12 students from Angola, China, Congo, Egypt, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Philippines, South Africa, eswatini and Zimbabwe.

The Virtual Ceremony will see 654 students graduating, with 51 of them being awarded the Tan Sri Limkokwing Awards of Excellence.

The Covid-19 vaccination programme for frontline workers kicked off on Monday and the doubts which seemed to linger about the Chinese vaccine have since disappeared.

With smiles on their faces, scores of people who have been vaccinated have since taken to social media to show off their vaccination cards, these include journalists who were later added to the list of essential workers.

This was after the Ministry of Information convinced cabinet that we are also an important lot. I am yet to take my jab but it’s only a matter of time before I do since the programme is ongoing.

“Mass vaccination is our only hope of returning to normalcy...vaccines have been proven to be safe and effective and have helped in eradicating pandemics since time immemorial. Happy to receive my Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine today,” tweeted Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights, Norma Matara, on Monday.

Zimbabwe has been on lockdown since January 4th following a spike in cases after the festive season. As of February 23rd, the country had 35,910 confirmed cases, 32,288 recoveries and 448 deaths.

And while other people were focusing their attention on fighting the pandemic, the country’s Epidemiology and Disease Control Director, Portia Manangazira, was seized with looting as much as she could from the Covid-19 funds.

I am sure she was inspired to loot by her superiors but, unfortunately for her, she forgot that some animals are more equal than others. Others are exposed for looting and still get away with it while it becomes the end of the road for some.

She is currently behind bars for fraud and abuse of office as she allegedly abused funds close to a million dollars.

Manangazira reportedly recruited 28 relatives including her father to serve as community health workers tasked with raising Covid-19 awareness on behalf of the Health Ministry. She allegedly went on to authorise procurement of goods and services without following due process, most probably giving the tenders to friends and relatives so she could get kickbacks.

Meanwhile, disgraced Vice President, Kembo Mohadi’s sexscapades continue to be talk of the town as a fourth audio of his conversation with yet another woman was leaked to the press.

The latest audio was of the 71-yearold politician talking of wanting to have a baby with the woman. The woman in question, however, says having a baby is not a good idea but promises the VP ‘a good time’ when they meet.

With all these sex scandals tumbling out, there have been calls for Mohadi to step down. It remains to be seen if he will leave office or life will go on for him as if he never slept around with young women, even in his office!
