- BY FRANCINAH BAAITSEMMANA

A man has reportedly taken his own life at Xareng cattle post after his girlfriend decided to spend a night with another boyfriend this past Saturday.

Confirming the incident, Shakawe Police Acting Station Commander, Ogolotse Tampa, said the corpse is currently in Gumare awaiting post-mortem.

“We are investigating a suicide case. The deceased was employed as a cattle herder at one of the cattle posts in Xareng. Employed at the same cattle post were two other women, aged 25 and 27. So the man in question, aged 36, had a relationship with the 25-year-old, but before that the woman is said to have told him that she has a permanent boyfriend who owns a farm in the neighbourhood,” explained Tampa.

The two are said to have fallen in love and started a sexual affair with the understanding that the woman had a “permanent” boyfriend who sometimes visits the cattlepost.

“Last Saturday, the permanent boyfriend came to Xareng and the two ladies sneaked out to visit him. However, the 25-year-old decided to stay the night when the other one went back to their work place,” added Tampa.

However, upon arrival at the farm the herdman is said to have enquired about his girlfriend’s whereabouts and when her friend held back the information, the herdman assaulted her.

“Their employer is said to have reprimanded him and he appeared remorseful. However, at night he sneaked out and hanged himself on a tree and was found in the morning,” explained Tampa.

Xareng is roughly 250 kilometres South West of Shakawe in the North West District.
