SOFTBALL’S CHANGING OF THE GUARD
LOCAL softball is bracing itself for the dawn of a new era following a changing of the guard at BSA.
The Association’s newly elected President, Katholo Mosimanegape, says his first mission is to work on a proposal for the sport’s immediate return.
The Botswana Police Traffic Director stood unopposed at the executive committee elections held over the weekend.
For Mosimanegape, it was second time lucky for the top job, having lost out to Thabo Thamane at the last elections six years ago.
This time, however, Thamane decided not to contest giving the former Softball VP a clear run for the sport’s premier post.
Speaking to Voice Sport this week, Mosimanegape admitted he is coming into the office at a difficult time, with Covid-19 confining sport to the sidelines.
Despite this, the new king revealed his committee will work on a compliance proposal for the return of sport and submit it to Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC).
“Softball has the potential and a big following. When I was part of the committee, we developed national diamond softball grounds and attendance of our games was huge. We are just waiting to be given the green light to resume sport and monetise it when spectators are allowed to watch the games. Sport has lost credibility and part of my action plan is to bring back softball legends because we need their input for wisdom and our growth. I am not new in the executive committee so I will continue where I left in terms of sport development,” said Mosimanegape.
The top cop also preached unity among the softball family, noting there are factions within the sport that threaten to derail its growth.
