They disturbed my stay!

-

My husband and I booked a night at a lodge.

The reason for booking was to relax away from the kids. That very night there was a commotion at night, people screaming, shouting throwing things around, a young boy screaming. The commotion took about 40 minutes. By that time, I was scared and traumatised to go outside the room. My husband and I decided to leave from there. Unfortunately there was no one to open for us. The other guests were the ones trying to make peace between the couple fighting who happen to be the owners of the lodge. We also found out they reside at the lodge. We couldn’t sleep or relax after the commotion and to top it up electricity kept tripping therefore we couldn’t watch TV nor use airconditioner. We left early morning, Saturday, with no apology from the owners, till today. Please assist. I feel I was cheated my money since I did not get what I paid for.

I wonder if the owners of this place understand that they work in the ‘hospitality industry’? There’s a reason it’s called that. It’s because it’s about being hospitable.

My dictionary defines hospitality as “the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers” and I think that’s a perfect description of what we should expect when we spend our money on somewhere to stay. I know we can’t always expect 5-star accommodation with endless luxuries but even at the cheapest, most humble, downto-earth places, I think we deserve to be welcomed with a smile, offered security and safety and, depending on the location, some peace and quiet.

Clearly these owners have a distorted view of what hospitality means. It doesn’t mean shouting, screaming, arguing at full volume and burdening guests with their family problems.

I contacted the management of the lodge and let’s see if they care to respond.
