LOBATSE SPORTS FEST BILLED FOR JULY
LOBATSE will host the first edition of the muchanticipated Lobatse Sports Fest, which is scheduled for July 15th-17th 2022.
A myriad of sporting activities which include cheerleading, spin-city, scrabble, netball, marathon and football have been lined up for the day.
Chairman and Founder of Lobatse Sports Fest, Tshepo Bathai, announced this week at the launch of the project that the event was conceptualised two years ago and that it was delayed by the outbreak of Covid-19.
“When this idea came to life, I engaged a few of Lobatse born and raised youths to form a Local Organising Committee (LOC) to ensure that this auspicious festivity becomes a success. Furthermore, our mandate is to bring that vibe Lobatse used to have while also unearthing the raw talent we have in the town and promote Lobatse as a destination,” he said.
According to Bathai, these games will be integral in the livelihoods of Lobatse natives with regards to small businesses. “The primary benefits of this event will be the Lobatse community as people will throng the town in large numbers. However, we will outsource a few things that we do not have in the town just to ensure that the event becomes a success,” he said.
Bathai highlighted that they are in cooperation with national sports associations as different sporting codes will be involved at this event. “We have engaged national sports associations and they have agreed to come on board and a part of the revenue generated at this event will be donated to orphanages in Lobatse,” highlighted Bathai.
For his part, Lobatse Sports Fest Volunteer Manager, Kgotlaetsile Moube, said the event is going to require at least 200 volunteers. “This is a massive event and we want to ensure that everything moves swiftly as we want people to have the best time in Lobatse,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lobatse Sports Fest Programmes Manager, Omphemetse Mmolai, said they will be kick-starting activations for this event soon. “We are going to host the activations in a number of neighbouring villages as a way of bringing it to the people,” said Mmolai.
