‘I am being framed by my daughter, his mother,’ grandfather

A 65-year-old man appeared before the Lobatse Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning facing a charge of sexually abusing his 3-year-old grandson.

The suspected child molester, Patrick Abubakar Seele, is alleged to have had carnal knowledge of his three-year-old grandson on July 18th, 2022 at their home.

The grandfather, who cut a lonely figure in court this week after his charge sheet was read out in court, expressed total shock that that he was accused to committing such a heinous crime against his grandson.

Seele told the court that he was actually living with his grandson along with his other three grandchildren. He told court that he in fact shared his room with his wife and the four grandchildren as the boy’s mother was in confinement.

Responding to a question by the Lobatse Magistrate, Gofaone Morweng, on why his own grandson would accuse him of the heinous crime, the grandfather said he suspected that the mother to the young boy, his daughter, had convinced her child, the three-year-old boy, to frame him.

In the end, the state did not oppose his bail only on the condition that he did not return to the home where the boy stayed.

He was granted P5 000 bail and has been restrained from having any contact with his own family, until completion of the matter.
