BONU PULL OUT OF BOFEPUSU
This past week saw Nurse’s Day celebrations held in Maun.
Nurses and healthcare stakeholders across the country headed to the north to celebrate and appreciate our nurses. Unfortunately, the celebration didn’t pan out as certain important stakeholders refused to show support for the celebration, including the Botswana Federation of Public, Private and Parastatal Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU). Other Unions like BLLAHWU, BOPEU and Manual Workers Union had contested in court they were not consulted about the nurses day celebrations. This led to the Botswana Nurses Union (BONU) deciding to pull out of BOFEPUSU with immediate effect.
“BOFEPUSU is as confusing as UDC. UDC copied BOFEPUSU. Unfortunately politics is different from unionism,” said one comment. Someone else said, “I hope the decision to pull out of Bofepuso, was carefully considered. It wasn’t an emotional response due to Court order. In that case we salute your decision to go solo.” The two organisations should probably think carefully and reconsider their positions. They are surely stronger together than apart.
