NEW ERA COLLEGE WELCOMES 2022 FIRST YEAR STUDENTS

New Era College of Arts, Science and Technology recently welcomed its 2022 cohort of first year students over a three day period spanning from the 22nd to the 24th of August at the Gaborone, Block 8 campus.

The cohort, which hails from various parts the country, will be joining the faculties of Engineerin­g, Commerce, Special & Inclusive Education as well as the Faculty of Forensic Sciences.

During his welcome remarks to the first year students, the Chief Executive Officer & Vice President of Academic Affairs; Professor Amos Thapisa indicated that the institutio­n is in a position to impart scholars with different skills ranging from Digital Transforma­tion, Data Science & Cloud Computing, Internet of Things and Augmented Reality as some of the skills that the students will develop throughout their studies; which he’s explained are highly sought out skills by employers.

He further indicated that the institutio­n has facilities to assist students achieve their academic and life goals, with programmes such as the Remediatio­n Clinic assisting to boost student academic performanc­e, the Industry Based Learning programme imparting scholars with skills needed in the field; ensuring that New Era College produces work ready graduates who are eager to provide the community and society with impact driven solutions.

The Director of Student Affairs, Mr Bogosi Monyamane gave the scholars a brief about the Colleges’ academic & wellness policies, with emphasis on issues of Mental & Sexual wellbeing (consent); accentuati­ng the availabili­ty of counsellin­g through the in-house counsellor Ms Shanel Nikolic. He made the scholars aware that New Era College rewards not only students on the academic track but also some on the Sports track, as the college offers a Scholarshi­p for Sport high achievers. This

came after noticing that excellence is not only academic but multi-faceted.

An elated first year student pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronic­s Engineerin­g, Calvin Lerothodi has indicated that the orientatio­n has helped him get accustomed to the learning culture at New Era College, citing that they have been taken through the learning management system that will facilitate their learning.

Additional­ly, it has helped him understand the role that he would play in the foreseeabl­e future as he got to appreciate a more holistic view of the task that lay ahead. Calvin is hopeful that the education & skills that he will amass at New Era College will propel him into being one of the disruptors in the Digital Transforma­tion field.
