SOCIALMED ROUND UP IA
The past week, social media had revellers on the edge of their seats typing away as they commented on various trending topics.
Everything from surprising arrests to potential rap beef. Here are the highlights on this week’s Social Media Round Up.
GTA VI leaked One of the most successful video game franchises in history, Grand Theft Auto, had it’s video gameplay content leaked over the weekend.
Rockstar Games, developer of the franchise, revealed they suffered a security breach for the upcoming GTA VI. The footage showed animation tests, level layouts and some gameplay demonstrations, and it appeared to confirm a long-running rumour that the game will feature the series’ first playable female protagonist. “Some people are complaining about the graphics and gameplay about the game saying it’s unfinished. That’s because it is literally unfinished,” said one comment. Another comment read, “Rockstar Games are better than me because I would’ve been petty and said GTA 6 wasn’t coming until 2040 just to anger the leakers and everyone laughing.” While someone else said, “Congrats to the GTA6 leaker. You probably delayed the game by another year or two at least. Hope you’re proud of yourself.”
Tory Lanez assaults August Alsina Pint-sized American artist, Tory Lanez, is trending again. For assault... again. This time he is accused of beating up fellow singer, August Alsina, backstage at a concert.
Alsina posted on his social media that he was sucker punched, with photos as evidence. Alsina says he was jumped by Lanez and his security after Alsina refused to shake his hand. Social media shared their thoughts. “Will Smith must have been smiling all day knowing August got beaten up today,” said one comment. Another comment read, “August Alsina is literally immunocompromised. He cannot be out here fighting. So Tory Lanez is even more pathetic to lay hands on someone who is too weak to defend themselves. I hope they lock Tory Lanez up. That’s multiple assault inci
dents since 2020.” One humorous comment read, “Tory is acting real tough for someone who can’t reach the top shelf.” Tory Lanez clearly is hot headed. How long until his attitude irreversibly affects his career.
This past week we learned that Tsaone Reboeleng was arrested by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) for possession of guns stolen at Goodhope police.
Reboeleng is already on bail and is the only survivor of the infamous Phase 2 shootout. She was allegedly found in possession of assault rifle guns. Social media had a field day in the comments. “After surviving those shootings I would be a pastor by now,” said one comment. Another comment read, “She is an independent woman. She makes her own money. By fire, by force.” Another commenter said, “I thought they were told to eliminate the threat. Why is she still threatening them?”
One may wonder what such an armed and dangerous woman is doing out on bail.
Reason comes for AKA South African Hip Hop is beginning a slow resurgence as the current tidal wave of Amapiano doesn’t seem to be fading out soon.
Phase 2 shootout survivor arrested again
Rapper, AKA, released his new single ‘Lemons’, which he uses to take a slight dig at Hip Hop acts who have abandoned Hip Hop and transitioned into Amapiano. He raps, “Thank God they showed their true colours. Switched up piano like vultures.” Now Reason enters the fold by wanting clarity on who AKA is talking about specifically. Reason is known as a razor sharp lyricist who has now transitioned into Amapiano under the moniker ‘Sizwe Alakine’. Reason seemed to have taken issue with AKA. He posted, “AKA saying that is problematic. Does that line mean he considers all of us as vultures for that? You make Afro Beat records my nigga. Why you the only one that can “switch” genres?” Social media chimed in. “He was not referring to upcoming artist, so stay out of it,” said one comment. To which someone replied, “He didn’t blow up because you’ll appreciate mediocrity.” AKA, who has historically revelled in social media chaos, is yet to respond. He is no stranger to Rap beef so, if Reason insists, he better come prepared.
