WOMAN CAUGHT BRIBING A COP

- BY GOFAONE KOOGOTSITSE

A 46-year-old woman has landed in hot soup after she was arrested by a cop she was trying to bribe for the release of her detained sister from Molepolole police cells.

The woman, who is a Zimbabwean by birth and is legally married to a Motswana man, is said to have phoned a Molepolole male police officer last Wednesday requesting to meet him.

Upon meeting the officer, the Botlhapatlou village resident gave the officer P500 and the same officer arrested her after receiving the cash and later reported the matter.

Molepolole Police Station Commander, Superintendent Benedict Matlho, confirmed that

they are still investigating the case.

“The suspect’s sister had entered the country through an ungazzetted point, visiting the suspect and she was later detained in police cells. As for now, she has been deported back to Zimbabwe and the sister is charged for harbouring an illegal immigrant, which she might be fined a minimum P1 000. She has not yet paid the fine since we want to finish with the other case. If there is no charge after completion of investigations, she will only be fined for harbouring an illegal immigrant, but if there is a bribery charge, both matters will be taken before court,” said the police boss.

The suspect’s phone was confiscated by the police as part of evidence while investigations continue.
