PHOENIX RISES IN GHETTO

- BY CHRISTINAH MOTLHABANE

Ten years after setting up shop in Gaborone, Phoenix Assurance Group has stretched its wings to the second city, rising up in Francistown last month.

Located along Lobengula Street opposite John Mackenzie School, the new branch will house four employees.

The insurance company, which takes pride in giving customers ‘peace of mind’, describes itself as a dynamic financial powerhouse operating short-term insurance companies in Africa.

Phoenix provides a wide range of insurance cover, including: house and its contents, motor, fire and buildings.

Speaking at the official opening of the new office, Phoenix Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Carlson Chiswo, hailed the dawn of an exciting new chapter in the organisation’s long history.

“We are one of the growing companies and my expectations are that this branch will sign in many Francistown people. We boast of being the only group offering personal accident policy,” he stated.

Giving a brief background on Phoenix Assurance Group’s roots, Chiswo revealed the company’s footprint can be traced back 110 years, when operations began in Kenya.

“It was on 10th October, 1912 that the first insurance policy was issued by the company,” noted Chiswo, adding the insurer’s stretch now covers most of Southern Africa, with bases in Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia and eswatini.

Appreciating the new kid on the block, Deputy Mayor, Lesego Kwamabala, said this was a welcome development for the city of all things precious.

“We want offices opened here and empowered to make decisions. Insurance is a key strategic pillar therefore we welcome such investments. Thank you for believing in our city,” said Kwambala.

“There is no doubt Francistown has always been the center of development. It is the hub for mining and gateway to tourism. It is a city that cannot be ignored,” he added.
