SEFALANA LIQUOR C

-

Sefalana opened liquor outlet number 25 on Friday, 18 November 2022, the latest addition to their ever-expanding empire located in the diamond town of Jwaneng.

The Jwaneng store is the fifth that Sefalana have opened this year and comes hot on the heels of similar launches in Gaborone’s Block 5, Block 8 and Block 10 locations as well as Mogoditshane Block 4. It means the retail giant is well on track to meet its target of having 50 liquor stores in Botswana by the end of 2025. Located at the Jwaneng Diamond Mall, the new outlet will employ a total of 11 people from the mining township. Speaking at the grand opening, Sefalana Group Managing Director, Chandra Chauhan revealed it has long been their ambition to bring the Sefalana Liquor revolution to Jwaneng. “For the longest time space has been limited and we haven’t been able to do some of the things we wanted to do. Luckily, we found this space six months ago. Since then we have been working on renovating it; finally we have managed to settle everything and reach the pinnacle of the journey,” he explained. “The reason why we set up operations here is because individuals are not able to buy liquor in smaller quantities from our wholesale shops. So, with this liquor outlet, we are catering for your convenience such that you are to buy in allowed quantities and to benefit from the same prices that you see at our cash and carries,” Chauhan continued. The store is fully owned by Sefalana Group, which itself is 96 percent owned by Botswana institutions and individuals. These include: Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (48 percent), Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (10 percent) and Debswana (9 percent). “Sefalana was born and bred in Botswana and it is even run by Batswana. We are happy that we have brought this new initiative to Jwaneng,” said Chauhan, adding the company has big plans for its Jwaneng footprint. “Our cash and carry store is going to go through massive expansion, expanding it by a further 3, 000 square metres to take its full retail space to 6, 000 square metres. This will make it the biggest store in Jwaneng!” he declared. According to Chauhan, Sefalana Group has created 250 new employment opportunities for Batswana this year, a feat which takes the retailer’s staff complement to 5, 000, with 99.6 percent of those being Batswana.
