VITAL BIRD AREAS REVEALED IN POSTAL STAMPS

Botswanapost release first commemorative stamp issue for important bird areas in Botswana

- THE VOICE REPORTER

Botswanapost have released the first commemorative stamp issue of 2023 with the main theme on “Important Bird Areas in Botswana” as of Thursday 23rd March, 2023.

Commemorative stamp issues seek to educate and raise awareness on various themes of national interest such as heritage, tourism and culture.

As as result, the new stamp issue on important bird areas emphasises Botswanapost’s aims to promote nature conservation and capture the local wildlife scenery. In this regard, the stamp issue focuses on the bird life and consequently an aspect of tourism. This is in light of the alarming rate at which nature, inclusive of bird habitat, is negatively impacted.

In an effort to stay true to commitment to local empowerment, the stamps were curated by expert Batswana youth where creative arts are concerned. The magnificent artistry of the stamp issue was illustrated by Keitshupile Tshuba while the graphic work was done by Shathani Basupi.

“We are thrilled to issue our first commemorative stamp for the year, Botswanapost prides itself in telling conservation stories in this regard. As usual, we enjoyed working with young minds in bringing to life the bespoke imagery illustrated on the stamps as we strive to drive local youth empowerment efforts,” said Botswanapost Philatelic Bureau Manager, Puleng Johnson.

Available for sale in P1.00, P2.00, P8.00 and P10.00 denominations, the new stamp issue is currently available at the Botswanapost Philately Museum located at Poso House, Gaborone and all post offices countrywide.
