Jealous girlfriend scalds lover with hot water

A 33-year-old woman in Sedudu ward, Moshupa, is being investigated by the police for unlawful wounding after pouring boiling water over her lover at the weekend.

Moshupa Police Station Commander, Superintendent David Ramoseki, confirmed that the incident was reported the same day after the incident, on Saturday evening at around 2040hrs.

He said the duo, the woman and her boyfriend, aged 35, are cohabiting at Sedudu ward and that they had a misunderstanding over a phone call while they were at home.

It is alleged that as the phone kept on ringing, the jealous girlfriend, who suspected her lover was cheating on her, immediately stood up and brought a pot full of hot water, which she poured on him.

“It is suspected that while the boyfriend’s phone was ringing, the woman quickly went to prepare the hot water. She allegedly poured boiling water over her lover’s upper body and the man later reported the incident,” explained Superintendent Ramoseki, noting that the victim was rushed by the police to Mmaseetsele Clinic and later referred to

Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital.

The man is reportedly recovering from the injuries he sustained on the ribs and chest.

However, the police said they are still waiting for the medical report to further their investigations, which will likely end up before court.

The suspect was detained in police holding cells the same Saturday and later released the following day.

“If there are misunderstandings between lovers, let it not lead to violence. There are relevant authorities who can better assist to resolve the problems. People should learn to seek assistance,” Ramoseki said.
