MURDER ACCUSED TO UNDERGO REHABILITATION

- BY CATHERINE MOEMEDI

THE long-awaited psychiatric report of Ogona Tlhabologang, a 20-year-old man accused of killing his younger sister in September 2022, has been filed before court.

Although details were not shared, state prosecutor, Universe Kabecha, requested that he be taken to a rehabilitation center while awaiting committal of his case as he is not fit to be released into the society as he poses a danger to the community.

In response, Tlhabologang demanded to know why the investigations are still dragging and, further, why the prosecution believes that he is not a suitable candidate for bail.

“I want to know why they are delaying the investigations because I cannot just stay in prison without getting out. I want to be granted bail as I will not interact with the society.

But, anyway, I have heard and I will see what to do,” said Tlhabologang forlornly.

Tlhabologang is charged for the murder of his 12-yearold younger sister, Lesego Tlhabologang, on September 4th last year.

Earlier on that day when Thabologang arrived in Maun from Boro, he reportedly ordered his other sister to allow him to spend the night with the now deceased in his hut, taking the young girl from her heavily pregnant sister, who was given the responsibility to look after her in their parents’ absence.

The following morning, the expectant mother grew worried when she realised that the young girl had not woken up to prepare for school. When she got to Tlhabologang’s hut, the child was nowhere to be found.

In an attempt to throw her off, Tlhabologang lied that the child had already gone to school. To clear her suspicions, the eldest sister went to school where it was confirmed that the child never showed up that Monday morning.

After a two-day search, the girl’s burnt body was found by their father in a nearby bush. Tlhabologang reportedly confessed to chopping off his sibling’s head with a hoe before burning her body to destroy evidence.

The court has ordered that he be taken to Moshupa Boys Prison where he will undergo rehabilitation.
