FEELGOOD IT’S FRIDAY

- BY LEUNGO MOKGWATHI

GAONE Precious Mokotedi, affectionately known as Lady Precious M, is a social media influencer with over 226k followers on Instagram and over 244k on Facebook. When she’s not creating digital content, she is a plus size model and a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Moshupa. In this feature, the 25-year-old talks about her glamorous lifestyle and how she balances it all.

What got you into the content creation space?

When I started off as a model, that industry was still at the infant stage of diversification. I was turned down at a lot of fashion show auditions and I didn’t get a lot of gigs that I applied for, it was a pretty helpless situation. But

I realised that I could create my own audience. According to my research, Instagram was the best direction for the purpose of international reach. I created an account and started posting as often as I could, one thing led to another, people took a liking to my content and, boom, my follower statistics grew exponentially.

You’ve definitely done well in finding your niche and building your online community. How do you classify the type of content you share?

I would define it as positive living content. I don’t only promote body positivity, but I also promote happiness in general. My followers get a front row seat and see me living my best life happily, not allowing anything or anyone to slow me down or influence my opinion about myself .This allows me to be relatable to not only the plus size community but people of all genders, sizes and ages.

How do you find balance between being a lab scientist and a content creator?

It is quite challenging, but equally fulfilling. They say you “do what you love and you will never work a day in your life”. I couldn’t agree more.

Some of the things you vlog about are your travels, what’s your favourite holiday destination?

I have been to Dubai four times. The fastpaced life was a culture shock and somebody said to me, “Money moves fast in Dubai”. Everyone either goes there to spend or make money. It almost feels like another world.

How are you able to travel so much considering your job as a medical lab scientist and how do you finance your lifestyle? ?

I’m currently practising part-time as a lab scientist, therefore I am not always travelling. My lifestyle is a result of planning, budgeting and saving. My parents and siblings have supported me numerous times, too. Also, because of the popularity of social media marketing, most times it’s the local and international gigs I get that cover the logistics.

Growing up as a kid, what were you bullied for?

Obviously for being chubby. Luckily, I was smart so my classmates had to be careful if they wanted my help with homework.

What would you change about yourself if you could?

Procrastination. I have a tendency to leave things to the last minute but, on the bright side, I am a perfectionist and I work well under pressure, it’s usually a happy ending.

What is your relationship status?

Single and not searching!

Lastly, Five things people don’t know about you?

I can’t whistle. I can put any baby to sleep! Apparently this body of mine is super comfortable to lie on. I’m a pastor’s daughter. I’m dead scared of the dentist, thank God I have perfect teeth. I am taller than I look in pictures - 1.8m, which tends to shock people when they meet me in person.
