- BY BOITUMELO MASWABI boitumelomaswabi@gmail.com

SOCIAL media sensation, Mercy Murc - aka Mercy Ramojela, shares daily motivation on personal development and the power of positivity with her 99k followers on Facebook and 47.7 on Tiktok, seldom falling short of being awe-inspiring and insightful.

In this interview, Voice Woman is thrilled to chat with the ambitious Ramotswa-born blogger about her passion of transforming lives, both internally and externally, through her eponymous blog, marketing and image consultancy. Despite her hectic schedule, Mercy is very generous in sharing an in-depth look into her journey to building her brand as an all-round businesswoman; she and her husband are busy with preparations for the popular ‘Taste of Africa’ food and music show slated for the 25th of May.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Mercy Ramojela is a thirtysomething-year-old marketing consultant, blogger and image consultant. Born and raised in Ramotswa, I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Monash University in South Africa.

Take us back to the moment you first realised you wanted to be a motivational blogger and entrepreneur.

I have always loved talk shows such as the Oprah Winfrey and Dr Phil shows, which I drew inspiration from as they gave people hope with every episode. I started watching them from junior secondary school, if not earlier. While at varsity, I got exposed to the likes of Joel Osteen and loved his motivational and captivating teachings. I then decided to create a page which focused specifically on giving people hope and motiva

tion, especially in these troubled times. I had no idea the page would blow up the way it has.

I called the page “Mercy Murc,” Mercy being my name and “Murc” being the nickname my friends called me by back in school. I wanted the Mercy Murc brand to be transformational; to touch and transform people’s lives in various ways. The blog focuses on the “internal transformation”. To transform them on the outside, I then decided to launch my Mercy Murc Image Consultancy, specialising in fashion consultancy, personal shopping and make-overs. I also introduced the Mercy Murc merchandise, which is currently gym wear, because I am a fitness enthusiast as well. Hopefully, I will introduce Mercy Murc beauty products in the nearer future.

Who is your role model?

Apart from my mother, who is a hard worker and believes in taking business risks, I would say Connie Ferguson and

Basetsana Kumalo. Both women are powerful media gurus, amazing producers, mentors, wives and mothers who have managed to remain classy and humble even with their success. I am inspired by women who are each other’s crown-fixers. I co-own a media production company with my husband, Kenramzzy Media, and we aspire to reach Ferguson Films level someday.

Tell us more about Kenramzzy Media and the recently-launched Children’s Television Workshop.

We are currently busy preparing for Taste of Africa food and music show to be held on the 25th of May this year and I am in charge of the marketing. This show aims at uniting Africans through food and music. Another project we launched this year was the Children’s Television Workshop, which entails training young kids from the ages of 6-16 years about the media space. These are all amazing projects my husband and I are currently engaged in and have been giving our company a lot of recognition. He is a media lecturer and I am marketing practitioner, so we definitely complement each other in business.

Being a godly woman is an obvious theme on your blog. We’ve just returned from the saddest Easter Holiday where families have lost loved ones, what words of comfort can you share during such a difficult time?

We live in troubled times, and I try my best to remind people just how much we need to make God the pillar of our lives. What happened this past Easter holiday is heartbreaking, but I believe without a doubt that God has welcomed those who lost their lives with open arms into His Kingdom. My priest said to me a few days ago that “to pass away during holy week (Easter) is a blessing”. We may not know why it happened but what we can console ourselves with is that some passed away on a journey of faith and are now resting in perfect peace. We live in a spiritual world, and my advice to people is to spare a few minutes during their busy schedules to make time for God. Praise, meditate or just to say, “Thank you, Lord, for keeping me safe.”

You engage with 99k followers on Facebook; how do you stay motivated?

I have woken up around 4am, inspired to type a post as ideas and thoughts always come at the most random of times, and I never hesitate to type because I feel it is sometimes God using me to touch someone somewhere in need of some encouragement. I’d later post at a time I know normal people are up; my posts are definitely God-inspired. If I can make at least one person’s day, then I have fulfilled my purpose. Social media is beyond toxic, so for people to have a safe place to always escape to for a moment is a big win for me. I am also still shocked at how the blog blew up because it’s rare for people to pay attention to motivational blogs nowadays. Most people are too busy searching for what or who is trending.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

To never change who I am to fit in. I have always run my own race. My peace always comes first, so whatever forces me to change who I am, I reject without thinking twice.

And what advice would you give to up and coming bloggers ?

Do what you are passionate about, not what is trending. Do not try to mimic another person hoping to gain the reach they have. Remain humble and treat people with respect. Do not chase fame but strive to be impactful.

And future plans?

I hope to one day have a Mercy Murc foundat i o n , particularly focusing on girls and women empowerment. I also hope the Mercy Murc brand branches into beauty and cosmetics, such as your make-up, hair etc.

Lastly, when should we expect your first book?

It is definitely on the cards; I have been working on my motivational book since last year. Hopefully, God will give me the strength I need to complete it.
