“HELP, I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!”
Hello Miss, T. I religiously follow this column and sometimes I know you answer fashion questions. I am dreading winter because I feel like I need to buy new clothes since the ones I have aren’t new or trendy enough. Please help. Thato T.
Hello Thato. Thank you for writing to us, it gives me pleasure every time when I receive a style question because I am all about sensitising fashion lovers.
As temperatures drop, you might wonder why it seems like you have no clothes to wear for the new season. Sometimes it’s because of a poorly-organised wardrobe, sometimes what we buy is clothing that is seasonal, other times it’s because of misinformation that you follow in the fashion industry.
Here is what might help you unpack why you feel the need to buy new clothes or don’t feel like you have anything to wear this coming winter season. We are all about having a wardrobe that transcends all seasons. I hope the below tips help you.
Why you have nothing to
wear;
• You follow trends. Trends are all great and well but you need to choose trends that are somewhat capsules and can transcend seasons, like a denim jacket or a trench coat. You need to invest in timeless clothes. • You have not defined your personal style. You need to personally know what makes you tick, stylewise, and also know that you may grow up loving something or a certain style but, as you grow, your taste changes, so it’s okay to change your style according to your age. Also, make sure that your measure
ments are up to date. • You don’t follow the 8/2 rule • You have ill-fitting or skimpy clothes. You need to update your measurements or sizes, considering your weight. • You hoard and can’t see what you lack. To curb hoarding clothes, try donating clothes that no longer fit you. You might also want to organise your wardrobe. Perhaps it’s because you have not organised your wardrobe recently, so you don’t know what you have, or perhaps you keep things that you no longer wear.
