MJAMAICA’S PRANK CANNON FAILS TO FIRE

- Social Media Round BY TUMISANG DALE RANKOPO

FROM a furious funnyman’s intense prank, to a misfiring Cannon, with two rappers wrapping up their beef in a titanic showdown, it can only be Up...

THIS past week saw a concerning video making the rounds online.

Local comedian, Mjamaica, was filmed after apparently catching his girlfriend in the middle of an affair.

The clip shows the furious funnyman holding a spade and smashing the windshield of a car while screaming at his cheating girlfriend, who was wearing nothing but a towel, and threatening his love rival.

Social media was shell shocked, with the clip attracting a million views in just three hours.

The timeline was split on whether this was a skit or not, although it was later confirmed to be a prank masterminded by Mjamaica.

“I thought it was a skit until he smashed the windscreen,” was one comment, while another observed, “She’s watched enough movies in her lifetime. These are familiar lines.”

The three-minute clip even received Vee’s seal of approval, with the singer saying simply, “Good Job.”

Mjamaica also received rave reviews for his convincing acting, although some suggested the content was slightly inappropriate considering the number of passion-killings that occur in the country.

“Social Media can be so much deceptive at times. What a great mischievous act, you guys nailed it!”

As The Voice knows only too well, you can’t believe everything you see online!

THE Forbes U/30 summit officially kicked off on Sunday night with a welcome concert, featuring American comedian and actor, Nick Cannon, as special guest.

However, his DJ set left much to be desired, with the general consensus being Cannon failed to fire.

“Perhaps Nick Cannon doesn’t understand the type of music Batswana vibe to, or the technical glitches exposed how he’s not familiar with Djing,” was a typical assessment of his performance.

“Of all the people, why Nick Cannon? The only thing most of us know about him is multiple baby mommas. That’s all,” dismissed another unimpressed comment.

The criticism kept coming for Mariah Carey’s ex, with someone blasting, “Nick Cannon’s set was a disaster. Americans think what hot & trending in the US is a reflection of what’s happening in the world.”

While Cannon was blasted, Batswana were more appreciative of Nigerian artist, Omah Lay’s effort.

“Omah Lay is a boss. I’ve been to 3 of these Forbes opening shows and no one even comes close to his performance tonight,” praised one fan, while another impressed local raved, “A lot of the times when international artists come to Botswana they give us sub-par performances I don’t know if it’s coz they don’t respect us or what but today was NOT one of those days! Omah Lay you will always have my respect.”

BATTLE OVER IN recent weeks, we have been following the beef between rappers, Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

This past weekend, the rap battle kicked into a whole new gear, with six songs released back-to-back in a three-day blitz.

The latest war of words erupted when Kendrick dropped ‘Euphoria’ and ‘6:16 in LA’. Drake responded the next day with ‘Family Matters’ in a scathing attack on Kendrick alleging that he assaults his wife.

However, K. Dot hit back less than an hour later with ‘Meet the Grahams’ in a vicious dressing down of Drake. He addressed his son, parents and an alleged hidden daughter. Kendrick would not give the Canadian a chance to respond before releasing the popular ‘Not Like Us’ song in which he alleged Drake and his team have predatory behaviour.

Drake closed the battle with ‘The Heart Part 6’ where he seemingly bows out (for now) and denies any allegations against him.

Social media was in little doubt as to who won the skirmish. “I feel so sad for Drake coz I don’t think his career will ever recover from this. The fact no one even speaking up for him either shows how little his peers respect him or how scared they are of Kendrick and what comes with him,” observed one Hip Hop head.

“This goes to show how much the culture supports Kendrick. Because he was accused of beating his wife and no one believes it. But when Drake is accused of pedophilia, people want to believe it,” noted another.

This was the biggest rap beef we have seen since Nas and Jay Z. The culture is leaning towards Kendrick as the winner of this battle - but who will win the war?
