O primeiro registro de uma peregrinação religiosa vem de Helena, cujo pai era o imperador romano Constantino. Convertida ao cristianismo no ano de 313, Helena fez com que seu filho publicasse o Edito de Milão (Edito da Tolerância), o qual estabelecia liberdade de culto aos cristãos. Em sua ânsia e fervor, Helena percorreu a Palestina em busca das relíquias de Jesus Cristo. Ordenou a construção, em Belém, da Igreja da Natividade e, em Jerusalém, da Igreja do Santo Sepulcro, acreditando que teria achado o local onde Cristo foi sepultado. Faleceu com quase 80 oitenta anos, e seu corpo está no Sarcófago Santa Helena no recinto do Museu Pio-Clementino, no Vaticano. Na maioria dos países católicos, o turismo religioso tem se mostrado uma vocação em crescimento. No Brasil, várias cidades apresentam essa característica e, em Bragança Paulista, com suas magníficas igrejas, podemos perceber esse potencial. Muitas delas estão em bairros afastados, mas há outras no centro. Devemos lembrar que foi nessa cidade que Madre Paulina morou e trabalhou, deixando como legado a formação de pessoas empenhadas em ajudar os necessitados. A vida de Madre Paulina é inspiradora e desperta fervor entre seus devotos.
