humanitarian approach, becoming closer to the citizens who check in for help at public health units, the system helps bridge a gap between local reality and the State reality, a problem that compromised medical basic units in the past. The new model also promotes a stronger connection between doctors and patients, the city and its citizens. Recent data from DATASUS show that 35% of hospitals managed by OSSs recorded higher patient discharge rates, rising to 85% (compared to previous 63,2%) the patients’ rotation. This means a larger number of treatments delivered, of available hospital beds, optimal use of resources and most importantly less mortality.
