Lapa / Rua do Lavradio

-

Although Lapa pulses at night with music and samba, by day Rua do Lavradio is also the ‘It’ spot for curiosity sourcing. Best time to visit is on the first Saturday of every month (see Activities/Root n’ Rummage), but on other days (except Sun) try this... Begin at the corner of Avenida Chile and Rua do Lavradio, near the Brutalist Catedral Metropolitana de São Sebastião (also worth a gander). Facing away from the cathedral, head left till you reach #130 Mercado Moderno (see Standout Stores), a long warehouse-ish space with an outstanding selection of mid-century mod design; next door MOBIX at #128 / 2224 0244 / mobixmoveis.com.br / has more restored vintage. Exit left and gallop a few blocks to antique trinket motherlode Flanar at #60 / 2507 2751, with a great mix of old and new bobs at Atelie Belmonte #34 / 2507 0934 / ateliebelmonte.com.br. You’re done! Zip next door to charming pharmacy Granado #32 (see Standout Stores), or duck across the street to cocktail nook Casa Momus (see Bars) at #11 for a well-deserved libation. Saúde!
