White Orchid

If there is one thing Thailand is known for, other than its smiles, is its food. White Orchid at Imago Shopping Mall is the latest restaurant to offer the quintessential sour, spicy, salty and sweet flavours of Thailand, complemented by a liberal dash of herbs and spices to tickle the palate. The restaurant is elegantly decked out with subtle hints of its namesake and ample space to accommodate families out on a shopping trip to the mall. Expect to see typical Thai favourites on the menu such as Tom Yam, Pad Thai, Thai Green Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice, and more. Try their plain rice crackers with minced chicken before digging into their spicier dishes which include a version of the local Penang assam laksa called Siam Laksa but with a creamier consistency. The decadent sweets on the menu offer the ubiquitous mango and sticky rice but why settle for the conventional? Go for the coconut-ty Cham Cham Parfait with slices of jackfruit, jelly and chendol in thick coconut cream and coconut gelato or the Thai Tea Kakigori, a mountain of strong milky Thai tea shavings with a trickle of cream flowing down its sides. There are no huge surprises but if you’re craving Thai flavours, White Orchid has that covered with a modest but tasty selection. ••
