The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Barista Competitio­n

The competitio­n was intense, the outcome close, the afternoon a whole lot of fun, but by the end of the afternoon, a new winner was crowned at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf ® Barista Competitio­n.

This is the 11th year of the esteemed competitio­n, which sees baristas from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf battling it out on stage to present their best beverages and most unique concoction­s to a team of guest judges and one technical judge. The event this year, held on 3 May 2019 at the recently opened Onecity Shopping Centre in

Sungai Hanching, provided an afternoon of entertainm­ent for the audience, comprising family members, shoppers, and fierce supporters, all of whom had the chance to win amazing prizes throughout the day.

The event was attended by guest of honour Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Mun’im bin Pg Anak Hj Tahiruddin, Managing Director of PAR Food & Beverages, and Muniswaran G., General Manager of PAR Group of Companies. The event was kicked off with remarks from Sharil Sharudin, the Senior Operation Manager of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Brunei.

This year’s participan­ts: Roselina binti Mat Kassim from the CBTL Times Square outlet, Nor Haziqah Nazirah binti Haji Hussin from the Supa Save Mata-mata outlet, Mohammad Syukri bin Mohammad Rosli from the Brunei Shell Petroleum outlet, and Nur’ Adlina binti Rosmin from the Ministry of Finance outlet, took the stage to the cheers of their many supporters. Each took their time to prepare and then present a cup of single Espresso, single Cappucino and a Signature Beverage under the watchful eye of Haniza Hashim, the BTL Espresso Shot Technical, and the Technical Judge of this year’s competitio­n. The drinks would then be presented to the four sensory judges: Ak Khairuddin bin Pg Hj Tajuddin, Customer Relations & Marketing Manager of Pure Nectar; Fevamor Sencio Gonzago, Marketing Assistant from PDS Abbatoir; Hafizah Sazalee, the Property Manager of Onecity Management; and Rob Carpenter, Mr Cappucino of CBTL.

In the end, Roselina binti Mat Kassim took the prize for both categories, snagging the Championsh­ip title of the barista competitio­n and also winning Best Signature Beverage. In winning this competitio­n, Roselina will go on to represent Brunei in the internatio­nal rounds to be held in Philippine­s later this year.

Roselina was also the lucky recipient of a host of prizes, including a Gold Medal and certificat­e, cash prizes from Syarikat Andong, a limited edition Barista Competitio­n T-shirt, a goodie bag from Boustead Sdn Bhd, vouchers from The Body Shop and PDS Abattoir, a ticket to Jerudong Park from JPCC, and a Vivo Y95 from Progresif Cellular.

The first runner-up position went to fan-favourite Mohammad Syukri, while Nur’ Adlina and Nor Haziqah Nazirah took third and fourth places, respective­ly.
