Creating Piece by Puzzling Piece

-

Shatz (as her friends like to call her) and her love affair with art began when she first met a paper and pencil (she drew a ninja turtle). Like all children, she was introduced to the humble jigsaw puzzle, and this was her gateway into her fondness for puzzle games. But it was not just about the puzzle

games and the critical thinking that came along with it; instead, Shatz was more interested in the mechanisms of the game, how it worked, and figuring out the logic behind it.

But it was in university, taking art, that she made her first board game. Wood-working itself was a matter of trial and error for her, and she learned the art mostly through Youtube, books and social media platforms. After university, she decided to move forward with the dream to open her own studio and began setting up her own business: Shatz Studio.

She began with a jigsaw puzzle in 2016 as a birthday gift to a friend. Today, she offers jigsaw puzzles in sizes from A6 to A3 with the client’s choice in difficulty, in three styles: neutral (with visible wood grains), clean (with a lightened surface) and gunge (for a more rugged look). The process takes up to a month to complete, depending on the size and difficulty level.

She’s also in the process of making her own collection of puzzle boxes. While it’s still in the prototype and testing stages, she has already made a huge puzzle box and continues experimenting with solutions.

Shatz also does portrait drawing, and she creates, designs and makes other wooden crafts. If they’re not custom-made, her limited edition jigsaw puzzles sell like hot cakes, so be sure to follow her for updates or contact her if you want your own locally made puzzle as a gift to a friend or yourself! •• Instagram: @7thsensearts Facebook: @7thsensearts Email: 7thsenseartsbn@gmail.com
