At some point at the release of the umpteenth (okay sixth) Resident Evil movie, we’re just thinking, is it ever going to end? But the longest-running video game film franchise had its beginning, and it’s beginning wasn’t bad at all. Milla Jovovich stars as the weaponised human Alice, and while she kicks butt in the other films, you only see her in action here for part of the movie. Most of the time she’s running around scared while Michelle Rodriguez shoots down zombies with a sneer.

There’s more of a storyline here than the rest of the movies and because Alice is vulnerable, it’s scarier too. It also feels more like a movie, and unlike the rest of the films in the series (except for maybe Resident Evil: Extinction which wasn’t bad either), it’s definitely worth checking out.
