A Cultural Revival by Sang Tukang

Indigenous artists Adam and Frida began artisanal brand “Sang Tukang” in 2015 in pursuit of a cultural revival within Kota Kinabalu after noticing more and more souvenir shops selling unauthentic products only claiming to be made locally. Spending much of their time traveling across North Borneo to document traditional skills and form bonds with craftsmen, their persistent quest for authentic indigenous design translates into the timeless pieces they produce with pride, earning the recognition of their loyal clientele. Brass jewelry, basketry, sculptures and traditional musical instruments are just a part of Sang Tukang’s forte as they continue to spread a heightened sense of appreciation towards the rich culture and heritage that pervades Borneo and its people.
