Nanyang Food Garden

-

One Riverside has become a real gem when it comes to not knowing what to eat. The options here are enough to satisfy most gastronomic cravings, offering lunch and dinner diners choices from Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine to café and Western offerings. But if you’re looking for something Asian to fill your tummy, look no further than Nanyang Food Garden.

Even if they didn’t serve good food, you’d still be tempted to go into the brightly lit, retro and attractively furnished restaurant. Marble topped tables harken back to kopitiam days of old, while pendant lights hanging from the ceiling and a patterned black and white floor pushes the interior into sophisticated territory. You get for what you pay for when you eat in these natural light-filled surroundings. Dishes that come to you are not particularly elevated to any luxe standard, but they are plentiful: our Nasi Goreng Kampung came in a heaping of rice, keropok, eggs and acar, while our Tteokbokki came in a cauldron-sized bowl.

And like the name suggests, there’s plenty of Southeast Asian delicacies to love in its menu, but you’ll also find a good amount of Korean fare as well. Seeing as they share their venue with Daeon Korean Restaurant, the reason for this isn’t too much of a stretch. It didn’t matter one iota to our happy little group, as we ordered a combination of Indonesian and Korean for our lunch, and some dim sum for good measure.

Props must go out to the waiting staff, who were super helpful in narrowing down our dining decisions (this happens when three indecisive but ravenous females try to pick a meal from a large menu of Asian goodies). And as a restaurant that hopes to cover most of what we love to eat in Southeast Asia, new food items are regularly introduced in their menu. But if you’re looking for a pretty place to eat that serves some of your Asian favourites, we really couldn’t recommend Nanyang enough. ••
