Yi’s Nation

-

A sandwich bar taking up a tiny space in Kiulap in a blink-andyou’ll-miss-it location (right next to Easy Way), if you didn’t know of the affiliation between Yi’s Nation and Jing Chew (Brunei’s most beloved purveyor of buns and Roti Kahwin) you might have guessed it from the bread they use, which are freshly baked, soft, fluffy and the star of the sandwich (no disrespect to the fillings – good bread is the star of any sandwich). Fluffy is a theme in their ‘Phase 1 Early Birds Menu’, with a selection of sandwiches toting a heretofore unknown need for fluffy eggs in your sandwich. We had a Le_fluffy Angus (soft scrambled eggs with chives paired with cheddar cheese and ground angus beef), Le_fluffy Chick (chicken patty served with soft scrambled eggs with chives, garlicky mayo and topped with cheese), Le_fluffy Ebi Ohayo (soft scrambled eggs with shrimps in wasabi mayo), and a New York Sunrise (seared sirloin steak with house-made bell pepper salsa, roasted tomatoes and lettuce). You get to choose the bread for each sandwich: a choice of burger, yellow or white loaf (rest easy, there are no wrong choices here). The pandemic means less dine-ins and more takeaways, but these are sandwiches you can easily enjoy packed up and eaten at an office desk. It was just Phase 1 of their soft opening at the time we were there, and until things go back to normal, we’ll be patiently waiting for the time when we can try out more from Yi’s Nation.
