Wild (2014)
Directed by Jean-marc Vallée
WHAT’S IT ABOUT: Based on the true memoirs of the real Cheryl Strayed (played by Reese Witherspoon), who decides to hike the almost 1,800 kilometres of the Pacific Crest Trail in the United States while mourning the loss of her mother.
WHY WE RECOMMEND IT: Cheryl’s three-month journey is sometimes brutal and treacherous, and oftentimes arduous and unrelenting. But it isn’t without its victories. As a viewer, you can take this journey with her without worrying about losing your toenails, overheating in the desert sun or trekking through dangerous icy paths. You can just sit back and enjoy the various West Coast vistas and celebrate as Cheryl overcomes her physical and emotional obstacles.
FUN FACT: The screenplay was written by British author Nick Hornby, who is known for his bestselling books ‘About a Boy’ and ‘High Fidelity’.
