Cooking during COVID-19
It was truly a culinary phenomenon. During the days of lockdown, my beloved sister, who is a reluctant cook on any other day (Level: can’t be bothered), started whipping out masterful baked goods from sourdough creations to biryani from scratch (Level: Gordon Ramsay). The drastic changes did not arise from the invasion of the Bodysnatchers (though plausible) – they were simply a part of a global culinary phenomenon with a simple mathematical equation: Bored + Hungry x (can’t leave the house + desperation) / Cravings = If I can’t go out to get it, I’ll just make it myself! During the pandemic, everyone spent an inordinate amount of time in an apron poring through recipes online. Dormant culinary genes came bursting out, and Chef Gusteau from Ratatouille was totally correct: anybody can cook! When it comes to Self-quarantine Comfort Food, here are a few of the favourites we’ll continue making post-pandemic.
