Digital Technology Week opens with inaugural BICTA Alumni event

Over 100 members of the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) Alumni attended an inaugural event that gathered past BICTA participan­ts and judges, acting as an opening event for the Digital Technology Week which was held at the Internatio­nal Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

Present as the guest of honour at the event was Minister of Transport and Infocommun­ications (MTIC) Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Abd Mutalib POKSSDP Hj Mohammad Yusof. Also present was Permanent Secretary at MTIC Hj Mohd Nazri Hj Mohd Yusof as Co-Chairman I of BICTA Steering Committee.

During his opening remarks, Hj Mohd Nazri shared that the objective of the BICTA Alumni gathering is to keep track of past BICTA participan­ts’ products and their developmen­t, while also providing a platform for past BICTA participan­ts to network with industry leaders, businesses, technical experts and potential investors.

Meanwhile, one of the pioneers of BICTA, Dr Yong Chee Tuan shared that the BICTA Alumni can be a “catalyst for innovative and disruptive businesses” to grow and contribute to the economic and societal developmen­t of Brunei Darussalm with the continuous support from government stakeholde­rs.

In his speech, he encouraged the alumni to stay connected and to be active and elevate the industry to enrich the community as a whole.

The event also saw the guest of honour who toured the products showcase by BICTA Alumni members which proceeded by a session to share the experience by past BICTA participan­ts.

Since the first establishm­ent of BICTA in 2004, a total of 369 past participan­ts and judges were recorded, where 245 have registered as BICTA Alumni members. Registrati­ons can be made via the BICTA website www. bicta.gov.bn

This first BICTA Alumni event was jointly organized by the MTIC, AITI and IFB. Held during the Digital Technology Week of the Mid- Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2021, the event also aimed to highlight appreciati­on to those who have contribute­d to sustaining BICTA’s momentum throughout the years.

Brunei MYCE 2021 is an initiative by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) to attract the MICE market (Meetings, Incentives, Conference­s and Events), in particular, business travelers into Brunei Darussalam.

It focuses on events such as conference­s, seminars, forums, workshops and exhibition­s or expo with the main objective to promote the sharing of knowledge and business activities and networking amongst experts and entreprene­urs domestical­ly and internatio­nally.
