MYCE 2021 enters Digital Technology Week, three new services under EGNC launched
The Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE 2021) continued its series of events this week with the launching of the Digital Technology Week Exhibition in an event at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas, which also saw the launch of three new services under the E-Government National Centre (EGNC).
Present to launch the event was Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Abd Mutalib POKSSDP Hj Mohammad Yusof and Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Hj Ali Apong.

Week carried the theme of Smart Nation through Digital Transformation which is in line with the vision of the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 and due to this, the event featured various activities, including an exhibition, conferences, dialogues and competitions focussing on the trends and potentials of digital technologies.
One of the main highlights of the event was the Digital Technology Week Exhibition which is participated by 13 agencies from both the public and private sector including digital services providers such as DST Digital, Imagine and Progresif as well as eSports Association.
The exhibition features key trends and services for digital transformation including a 5G experience showcase at AITI’s booth which is part of the authority’s continuous efforts to raise awareness on 5G’s economic impact and opportunities with the emergence of various 5G applications towards innovation and digital transformation.
AITI’s booth also features a smart home concept as means to give members of the public an opportunity to gain experience and broaden their knowledge on how 5G can reap the benefits of digital transformation through live interactive demonstrations.
During the ministers’ visit to the AITI booth, the MTIC Minister proceeded to launch the AITI Strategic Plan 2020-2025 which was developed in support of realising the outcomes outlined in the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025.
EGNC launches three new services
Meanwhile, during his visit to EGNC’s booth, YB Dato Abd Mutalib launched three services under the E-Government National Centre (EGNC) through the 11th National Development Plan (RKN11) namely the One Government Private Cloud 3 (OGPC3), National Centralised Database (NCDB) and also the National Information Hub (NIH).
The OGPC3 services is a project that involves an increase in capacity along with the latest upgrade of cloud computing technology to meet the growing needs of government agencies.
Meanwhile, the NCDB enable the EGNC to provide the NIH platform services for the storage of general data such as names, addresses, smart card numbers and so on and thus will facilitate integrated data sharing between government application systems.
In addition, the EGNC also showcased the newly revamped website www.gov.bn were among other new features, introduced the e-participation link that allows the public to voice their opinions online through surveys, polls, as well as digital collaboration.
These services are initiatives of the EGNC together with relevant government agencies in jointly striving to achieve the goal of supporting digital transformation and further improving government online services in line with the Digital Economy Master Plan.
Speaking during a panel discussion on the second day of the Digital Technology Week, Permanent Secretary at MTIC, in his capacity as the Secretary for the Digital Economy Council, Hj Mohd Nazri Hj Mohd Yusof revealed that the shared how the new EGNC services represent the first steps by the government in integrating data across all ministries.
This was a response to a question during a panel discussion entitled ‘A Conversation on the Smart Nation, Digital Transformation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution’.
He explained that one of the main tasks of the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office is to engage with both the public and private sector in order for both parties to be aligned in their strategies, targets and efforts.
Part and parcel of this is addressing the issue of data integration in Brunei, he continued adding that one of the key flagship efforts regarding this issue is in fact, the National Information Hub (NIH).
“One of our aspirations is to move away from the days where you are asked for copies of your Identity Card, we want to get rid of this and (establish a world) where data integration is everywhere,” he said.
Held from 17 - 20 June 2021, the Digital Technology Week was co-organised by the Ministry of Transportation and Infocommunications (MTIC), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB) and supported by the EGNC, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), Cyber Security Brunei (CSB), IT Protective Security Services (ITPSS) and Dynamik Technologies.
