Brunei records highest number of new cases since August

Brunei recorded 981 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday announced the ministry of health in a press statement, marking the highest number of cases since the second wave pandemic hit the country in August 2021.

With this new development, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 20,454.

The ministry also revealed that out of the total number of new cases, 979 are local cases and two are imported cases.

The number of new cases is the result of 5712 laboratory tests conducted in the past 24 hours.

Moreover, 196 individuals have recovered from the infection. To date, the country has recorded a total of 16,610 recoveries.

Currently, there are 3742 active cases in the country.

It was also reported that the bed occupancy rate in isolation centres nationwide is 31.9 per cent.

Four cases under Category 4 have been admitted for close monitoring and requiring the aid of oxygen assistance. None are in Category 5.

Meanwhile, no deaths associated with COVID-19 have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

COVID-19 vaccination status

In regards to the country’s COVID-19 vaccination status, to date, 94.9 per cent of the nation’s population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, 94.1 per cent of the population already completed their second doses.

Moreover, the rate of those who have received three doses of the vaccine is 44.9 per cent.
