Atotal of 27 pints of blood was collected during a blood donation organised by the Turkish Embassy recently at the Blood Donation Centre in Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.

The blood donation drive was also organised to commemorate “Medicine Day” which is celebrated every year in Turkey on March 14.

According to the Turkish Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Professor Dr Hamit Ersoy, the blood donation is part of the embassy’s social responsibility which aims to give back to the community.

“It is a response to news about shortages at the Blood Donation Centre at RIPAS. It is also a welcomed chance to congratulate and thank the health workers for their vital service and valuable contributions to the COVID-19 pandemic response,” said the ambassador, adding that it is not only to encourage more blood donations but also a call to all fellow Muslims.

“We all should help with blood donations, keeping in mind it will be difficult to do so once Ramadhan starts,” he added.

The ambassador and spouse Lale Ersoy, together with embassy staff, donated blood at the Blood Donation Centre at RIPAS Hospital.

The head of the blood bank welcomed the foreign dignitaries and embassy staff, during which Senior Scientific Officer Chong Kim Moi and supervisor Hj Iqmal Hj Ismail ensured the hospitality of the Turkish Embassy were accommodated.
