Lovelyblue.bn : Handcrafting minimalistic jewelleries with love and perseverance

- Nurhana Diah BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Earning an income whilst being a full-time student, Nur Farishya Yahya turns her hobby of making jewellery into a business when people started noticing the handmade accessories she wore.

Lovelyblue.bn started during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country when the 26-year-old thought of ways to pass her free time at home.

Whilst being on social media, Nur Farishya came across a doit-yourself tutorial video about jewellery making. She was hooked and began watching video after video.

The avid fan of jewellery thought of making her own accessories and started to search for supplies which initial process was quite a challenge for her while at the same time enjoying her time.

Her handcrafted jewellery debut caught the attention of some people who began asking where she got them.

From then on, she knew the potential of turning it into a business, creating beautiful items including rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

Not only does she makes based on her own ideas and creativity, but she also caters to clients’ personal requests.

“I started doing customising because I enjoy them, it helps me to be more productive and creative towards what I do. I feel like it gives more of a personal touch and value to their pieces of jewellery,” said Farishya.

For the youth, what matters is customer satisfaction which further elevates her motivation to do better every time and their positive feedback gave her great joy.

What makes them special is that each design is a limited edition with the younger market in mind

who prefers minimalistic and affordable accessories priced under $20.

As with any other small business, this brand is also selling through Instagram, an ideal social media platform that can reach many target audiences. She does everything on her own from assembling the jewellery to marketing and promoting the dainty items.

Seeing the positive responses to each release, the youthpreneur always looks forward to designing a new collection and plan something new with her followers.

Moreover, the humble business also comes with its own challenges and for the youthpreneur, a competitive market is one as there are several local businesses also offering the same products and services. Hence, she needs to think about her designs thoroughly prior to release.

Another challenge for the Lovelyblue.bn owner is the location as she is staying in the Belait District, making it a hindrance for her to reach customers who are staying outside of the district.

As a Bruneian youthepreneur, Farishya is amazed at how proactive the entrepreneurship community in the country has been as more are keen to start their own business.

For her, owning a successful business makes her content and she does not easily follow temporary trends. It takes passion and patience to create a business as well as a supportive community. She believes that a business can strive with a good support network.
