National wushu athlete Mohammad Adi Salihin Roslan eyes for vigorous training in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games, following his success bagging a gold medal at the recent 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Vietnam.

He scored 9.71 in the men’s nanquan event, defeating nine other contestants. For him, winning the category was a proud and happy feat after three months of extreme training prior to Vietnam.

It was his second gold for SEA Games which first medal he claimed in the men’s nandao event in the Philippines in 2019, marking a double win in a row for Bruneian athlete.

“Our trainings with Coach Li Hui in the past three months were quite intense. We trained everyday in the morning and in the afternoon and sometimes at night. He pushed us to train hard, motivating us to achieve the best,” said the 21-yearold athlete.

He added: “My next focus will be the Asian Games which is slated to take place sometime in May or June next year. One year gap is not enough to prepare for that, but I know I must push and discipline myself more.”

The gold medalist is also looking forward for the next SEA Games, committed to deliver his best for the team and make Brunei proud.

Adi further said that his routines for the martial arts with Coach Li Hui focused on movements, jumps and endurance.

On his part, Coach Li Hui praised the athlete’s commitment and hardwork since he started learning wushu from the age of six.

“He follows the training plan really well and because of that discipline, he is able to get another gold medal. I am very proud of him,” said Li Hui, adding that wushu can be learned by anyone regardless of culture and background.

He added: “I want Adi to upgrade his focus and target for the next games… hopefully to get more golds in the future.”

In the 31st SEA Games, Brunei also took home one silver and one bronze for the pencak silat category.
