A record-breaking double ton, stunning long range try to win Commonweal­th Games gold, and Winter Olympic medals within two hours, are among the finalists for New Zealand’s favourite sporting moment of 2018.

The Halberg Foundation yesterday announced the nine finalists, which is the only category voted for by the public at the annual Halberg Awards, to be held on February 21 in Auckland.

The nominees are:

❚ Nico Porteous and Zoi Sadowski-Synnott medalling at the Winter Olympics within the space of two hours of each other.

❚ David Liti breaking a Commonweal­th record and winning gold in the men’s 105kg+ weightlift­ing division at the Commonweal­th Games.

❚ Kelly Brazier scoring a long range solo try in extra time to secure gold for the Black Ferns sevens against Australia at the Commonweal­th Games.

❚ The Black Sticks women’s penalty shootout win over Olympic champions England in the semifinal at the Commonweal­th Games.

❚ White Fern Amelia Kerr blasting a record breaking 232 not out against Ireland, achieving the highest score in women’s one-day internatio­nals.

❚ Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck receiving an impromptu haka after winning the Dally M Player of the Year.

❚ Auckland Rugby winning the Mitre 10 Cup premiershi­p final after a dramatic finish in extra time against Canterbury.

❚ The Black Caps winning the first test against Pakistan by four runs in Abu Dhabi.

❚ Goalkeeper Anna Leat’s successful penalty shootout against Japan, leading New Zealand into the semifinal of the Fifa under-17 women’s World Cup in Uruguay.

The finalists were selected by a panel of media representa­tives.
