KEEPING AN EYE ON THE OCEAN
It is rumoured that ADEX Singapore 2017 may see the launch of a game-changing new way for every diver to help scientists understand how climate change is affecting ocean temperatures.
The Ocean’s Eye, which will be displayed at DEMA 2016, is a small, cheap device that any and every diver can attach to their BCD and then, essentially, forget about! The Eye will record the temperatures from every dive it is taken on, and then independently send the data to a database via satellite.
Understanding how temperatures are fluctuating at different depths and in different locations is vital in learning how rapid and unprecedented climate change is affecting the oceans. This simple new technology could ensure that climatologists will, in a relatively short space of time, have access to a wealth of information that will help us safeguard the future of life in the seas.
