Changing Well-Establishe­d Microecono­mics?

For those of us in the developed world, having gone through agricultur­al, industrial and social revelation­s, the idea of killing a whale evidently causes some distress. But before we are quick to judge, a recognitio­n of not only the necessity, but the ingrained culture of whaling and spearfishi­ng in Lamalera is essential if we are to see any change in this long-standing practice. We must first understand the plight of the villagers, and propose alternativ­e livelihood­s that they might accept.
