It is January 12, 2019 and I have finally landed in the Maldives. I am beyond thrilled to be here. Not only has this place been on my bucket list for the longest time, but I am here to lead a once-in-a lifetime ADEX Ambassador Adventure. I will be diving with the celebrities of the underwater scene – Aaron Wong, Yorko Summer, Alan Lo, Sherin Tang, Eve Young, and Jessea Lu. What could be better?

The Maldives is an archipelago of 1,190 coral islands which lie across the equator in the Indian Ocean, southwest of India. Only about 90 of these islands are developed, while the rest are uninhabited. This is a country that is almost entirely ocean.

Diving in the Maldives has become popular over the years, with the destination famously home to beautiful coral reefs, and an abundance of marine life. Cruising through the atolls of the Maldives, on this trip, we’ll seek out the best diving this archipelago has to offer.

We are greeted by the tiffany blue water upon arrival at Malé and picked up by our host, Maldives Cruiser’s Operations Manager, Ms. Farah Kosnan. We take a dhoni for a 10-minute boat ride to the liveaboard, the luxury Princesa Luluka.

THE CENTRAL ROUTE

Our adventure will take us through the “Central Route”, ideal for divers seeking thrilling sightings of pelagic fish. We are promised massive coral gardens, huge schools of fish, and shipwrecks, but we are also led to expect plenty of treats for the macro lovers. It sounds like there will be something for everyone. Personally, I’m looking forward to night dives with manta rays, nurse sharks, blacktips and stingrays. On our checkout dives, we see blacktip and silvertip sharks.
