Cambodia
With untouched and unexplored waters, Cambodia has a reputation for having some of the most beautiful tropical islands in Asia, healthy reefs, and waters teeming with diverse marine life.
One of the region’s most unexpected dive destinations, Cambodia has more than 60 islands and a wealth of dive sites for the adventurous diver to explore, and though there is only a small stretch of coastline along the
Gulf of Thailand, what this tiny country lacks in size, it more than makes up for in adventure! Plus, compared to its Thai neighbour, Cambodia’s islands are underdeveloped and many of its dive sites remain undiscovered.
This is one of the many reasons why divers have been flocking to the country, to be the first to discover what lies beneath the waves.
The beachside town of Sihanoukville is the jumping-off point for those who are looking to begin their diving exploration. This little town is one of the only developed dive destinations within the country that offers different dive shops and centres, and the opportunity to arrange overnight accommodation. Diving at Sihanoukville is very similar to diving in Thailand, but without the crowds: You won’t have to fight with other divers to enjoy the serenity found underwater.
There is much more to explore along Cambodia’s coastline if you’re willing to venture a bit further out. North of Sihanoukville is the Koh Sdach Archipelago, where you can find an enormous variety of macro life.
Even further – a boat ride of four to five hours – and you’ll reach Koh Tang and Koh Prins, and beyond that, Koh Poulo Wai. The remoteness of these islands means fewer divers, better visibility and bigger fish – your own private diving haven!
