LIUQIU ISLAND
Take a 30-minute ferry from Donggang Ferry Terminal and you’ll find yourself in turtle heaven.
Highly recommended for both beginner and advanced divers, this tiny island sees three to four thousand turtles coming and going throughout the year! In fact, just walking along the beach, you can find the turtles swimming around in the sea.
Liuqiu Island is awesome because unlike other dive spots in Taiwan, you can dive here all year round – yes, even in winter! Additionally, when you think of a highly protected area, you’d imagine it to be a little underdeveloped, right? Not at all. In fact, on the island there are plenty of shops and streets you can explore. They’ve perfected the balancing act of commercialising as well as conserving this little island and I think that is something many of us around the world can learn from.
